Seriously guys, Machu Picchu looks like a dream. Ever since I saw the first picture (must have been National Geographics or something like that) in a magazine, I wanted to visit. That ancient citadel looks just so unreal! Mountains on all sides, an abyss below and then this perfectly built city on top of the mountain ridge. Truly must have been built by the gods.
Am currently researching a possible trip to Machu Picchu and there is quite a lot to organize. So much in fact, that I compiled quit the comprehensive list, if you ask me. Also, I realized that I really need to go shopping before (found this Machu Picchu packing list). It also makes me aware of the fact that visiting the ruins will be anything but cheap. The train ticket alone will be around 100 US-Dollar! There is, apparently, an option to get to Machu Picchu by bus, but I am not entirely sure if it is not a bit too much stress to save a couple of bucks.
I’d rather like to enjoy the ruins to its fullest and not be forced to constantly think about the budget. I mean, I am not rich (though some would argue that all people in the western world are rich by default), but i’d rather save longer at home than spoiling my precious vacations.
Also, am I the only the one that constantly has to think of Rio when I see Machu Picchu? Really looks like the sugarloof mountain to me! (here is a link to Wikipedia for those unbelievers).
It really looks a bit like the ancient settlments found on Oakney in Scotland (I bet I am the first to ever say that, lol). But either way, I have had this long fascination of things and places abandoned. I once went to an abandoned theme park which was the scarriest thing I ever did. Felt like being in a live horror movie.
I guess Machu Picchu won’t feel like that. I mean it got voted among the 7 New World Wonders and I guess this happened for a reason. I did quite some research the past couple of days and from all I read Machu Picchu doesn’t seem to be one of the hyped, overrated destination. Everyone seems to say that tickets, hotels etc are expensive as hell, but well worth the money. Right now, I am willing to believe that.
What do you say? Should I visit Machu Picchu? I feel like it is a good idea. Also Peru seems to be one amazing country!
